<p>Alkanoic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new. In (I) X is O or S; Y is H, halogen, CF3 or NO2; Z is H, halogen, NO2 or -CX-NH2; R1 is H, 1-4C alkyl or 2-8C alkoxyalkyl; R2 is H, 1-4C alkyl or -COOR; A is CN or -COB; B is OR3, SR4, NR5R6 or -NR7-NR8R9; R3 is H or 1/n Mn+; M is alkali (ne earth) cation, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni or +N(Ra)(Rb)(Rc)Rd); n = 1, 2 or 3; Ra-Rd are H, benzyl, or 1-4c alkyl opt. substd. by OH, NH2 or 1-4C alkoxy. R3 is also 1-18C alkyl (opt. substd. by halogen, NO2, CN, 1-8C alkoxy, 2-8C alkoxyalkoxy, 3-6C alkenyloxy, 1-8C alkylthio, 2-8C alkanoyl, 2-8C acyloxy, 2-8C alkoxy-carbonyl, carbamoyl, bis(1-4C alkyl)amino, tris(1-4C alkyl)ammonio, 3-8C cycloalkyl, 3-8C cycloalkenyl, or phenyl, phenoxy or 5-6 membered heterocyclyl (1-3 hetero atoms) opt. in turn mono- or polysubstd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy); 3-18C alkenyl (opt. mono- to tetrasubstd. by halogen or monosubstd. by phenyl or methoxycarbonyl); 3-8C alkynyl; 3-12C cycloalkyl (opt. substd. by halogen or 1-4C alkyl); 3-8C cycloalkenyl; phenyl (opt. mono- or polysubstd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkylthio, NO2, CF3, COOH, CN, OH, SO3H, NH2 or mono- or di-(1-4C alkyl)amino); or a 5-6 membered heterocyclic ring with 1-3 hetero atoms. R4 is 1-12C alkyl (opt. substd. by 1-8C alkoxy, 2-8C alkoxycarbonyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, or phenyl or 5-6 membered heterocyclyl (1-3 hetero atoms) which may in turn be mono- or poly-substd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy); 3-12C alkenyl; 3-12C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by 1-4C alkoxy); 3-12C alkenyl; 3-12C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by 1-4 C alkyl; phenyl opt. mono- or polysubstd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl; 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkylthio, NO2 or CF3; or a 5-6 membered heterocyclic ring with 1-3 hetero atoms; and R5-R9 are H or opt. substd.
