The surface is capable of absorbing water and carrying it rapidly away to the subsoil. The material with a content of fine slag and loam or loam gravel, also contains blast-furnace slag sand with a hydraulic binding capacity pref. in an amt. between 15% and 45% by volume. There may be one-third each of fine slag, fatty loam or clay gravel and blast-furnace slag sand. This continues to provide effective drainage even after severe frosts and thawing, or after very heavy rainstorms.
