Fixture for making branch pipe joint - has explosive charge to drive piston which cuts hole in main pipe

A fixture for joining a branch pipe to a main pipe consists of a cylindrical body(1) which is clamped to the main pipe (5). A piston(2) with a transverse hole(3) is fitted in the bore(4). A cartridge(10) containing an explosive charge (14) is pressed against the piston(2) by the screwed end cap. When the explosive charge is detonated the piston is forced against the pipe(5) and its sharp edge cuts off a cap (16) which is pushed against the side wall. The piston is then rotated by the square ended piston rod(11) until the hole is aligned with the outlet(8) to which the branch pipe is connected.
