The ladder has uprights and rungs both of profiled aluminium section. Each upright(1) has near the bottom a support foor(7) hinging to the side in the plane of the ladder, and which can be locked in both the extended and the folded positions. Each foot can comprise a supporting bar, hinging at a point between its ends on a prop(8), which hinges at the other end on the upright. One end of the bar bears against the ground, while the other is detachably secured at one of several positions(10) on the upright, typically by means of the removable pin(9) fitting in eyes in the upright ad a hole in the bar. At a further point there is an additional hole(11) in the bar, through which the pin fits in the folded position.
