A glass fibre-reinforced polyamide composition is prepared which contains, based on the glass fibres and the polyamide, from 65 to 90% by weight of glass fibres having a length of at least 6 mm and from 10 to 35% by weight of polamide having a number average molecular weight of from 2000 to 50000. The glass fibres are in intimate contact with the polyamide. The polyamide is prepared by polymerisation of a liquid monomeric lactam having 3 to 16 carbon atoms by means of a thermally activated catalyst system in contact with the glass fibres. The catalyst system contains an alkali metal lactam catalyst and a promoter. The catalyst and the promoter are defined in Claim 1.
