The device is intended, for example, for emptying jute packages containing tobacco leaves. The two rods (13 and 14) are displaced vertically downwards by the jacks (8 and 9) until the points (17, 18, 21 and 22) encounter a resistance. The control device detects this resistance and triggers the pneumatic motors (15 and 16) which turn the plates (19 and 20) in the opposite direction, so that the fabric (web) hooked onto the hooks (21 and 22) is stretched. The jacks (8 and 9) are then actuated in order to raise the plates (19 and 20) and to tilt the entire bale of tobacco leaves. The empty fabric (web) is discharged via displacement of the carriage (2) on the rail (1). <IMAGE>
