A locknut comprises a hexagonal, apertured, nut box containing two stacked hexagonal dished plates which engage the inside wall of the box to prevent their rotation. Bent over flaps on the box hold the plates in place. Threads are formed in the bores of the plates by a die tap after assembly of the lock nut. The thread on each plate is at least 1.2t, where t is the helical pitch. Tightening the nut produces flexible distortion of the dished plates causing binding of their threads on a bolt. The lock nut is re-usable. <IMAGE> |
