OPTICAL FIBER FOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

PURPOSE:To obtain the optical fiber for temp. sensors which has no problems in terms of stability with age and measurement of the absolute value of temp. by using a plastic material of witch the refractive index changes substantially with temp. as a clad material and utilizing the change in the light transmission loss occurring in light absorption which takes place in a service temp. region. CONSTITUTION:The plastic material the refractive index of which changes substantially with a temp. change is used as the clad 3 material of the optical fiber the core 1 material of which consists of quartz glass. The change in the light transmission loss occurring in light absorption by the plastic material which takes place in the service temp. region is utilized. The clad material is required to have the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core material consisting of the quartz glass and the change in the light transmission loss by the temp. change of the optical fiber can be increased to enhance the sensitivity by adding the component to increase the light absorption thereof. The optical fiber for temp. sensors which is high in the sensitivity and accuracy and allows stable temp. measurement is obtd. in this way.
