Process for the preparation of novel imidazole derivatives

There are prepared novel imidazole derivatives of the formula I <IMAGE> in which A denotes the group -(CH2)mCONH(CH2)nNHCO(CH)2m-, the symbols R<1> to R<4> denote hydrogen or various substituents and (X)2<2(-)> denotes two monovalent anions, by reaction of a diamine of the formula H2N(CH2)nNH2 with an imidazolylalkanecarboxylic acid corresponding to the above formula or an alkyl ester thereof, in the form of a salt with the anion X<->. The process products have antibacterial properties and are to be used, inter alia, as antiseptic agents and disinfectants and in dental hygiene.
