The container, which is intended for containing sausages, comprises a tray (6) and a lid (7). The tray (6) comprises a bottom (15) and side walls (16 to 19). The bottom (15) is provided with a series of upwardly directed protrusions, each of these protrusions having the shape of a pyramid comprising four triangular sides (22). The sausages are thus held in place between the protrusions and contact between the sausages and between the latter and the side walls is reduced to a minimum. Thus it is also possible to deep-freeze the sausages very rapidly and to remove them individually after deep freezing. <IMAGE>
