A photosensitive carbon paper (21) is exposed by contact, in any order, with a transparent-line screen (frame) (20), with a halftone positive for photoengraving, planographic or relief printing and with the same positive, but the latter being equipped with a diffusing sheet sandwiched between the positive and the carbon paper, after which the latter is transferred to a gravure cylinder and the development of the paper and the etching of the cylinder are carried out in the usual manner. This method is simpler compared to the known method called "double positive" method, whilst keeping its advantages. During the exposure of the carbon paper through the transparent-line screen (frame), it is advantageous to superpose onto the screen (frame) either a continuous-tone negative (19) of the same subject to be reproduced or a halftone negative (23) lined with a diffusing sheet (24). Undesirable moiré effects are thus avoided. <IMAGE>
