The metering device consists of a row of right-angled slides (30) which are arranged adjacently in one plane and lie with their side edges (31, 32) closely adjacent. The adjacent slides are provided with cutouts (41, 42) along their side edges (31, 32) opposite the front slide ends, into which cutouts slightly over dimensioned inserts (43, 44) of elastic sealing material are inserted so that, when the individual slides are compressed inwards by means of slide plates, all the inserts of sealing material are compressed evenly. The side edges (31, 32) are brought into a flush gliding contact with one another, as a result of which differences in mass in the width of the slides (30) are distributed evenly between the slides, and penetration of ink between any two adjacent slides (30) of the entire row of slides is prevented. <IMAGE>
