The air-conditioning apparatus consists of a basic unit and at least one extension unit. For electrical and mechanical connection of the basic unit to an extension unit, and of the extension units to one another, each unit has at the base of its housing lower part on each connection side a contact strip (101, 102) with projections (103, 104), and contact sachets (105, 106) which are provided in the projections. The projections (103, 104) engage in one another and are mechanically connected to one another by means of the plug strip (109) whose plug parts (110) plug into the contact sockets (105, 106). The brackets (111) produce the electrical connections. The plug strip (109) is arranged on a limb of a connecting frame and produces a detachable, but robust mechanical and electrical connection therewith. <IMAGE>
