Mechanically and electrically programmed grinding machine with a single slide (14). The grinding machine comprises a base (12), a workhead (20) carried by the base (12), and two sliding rods (54, 56) which are arranged parallel to one another on the base and carry the slide (14) in a longitudinally displaceable manner and pivotably about one of the sliding rods (54), which slide (14) carries the wheelhead (16). The longitudinal adjustment of the wheel slide (14) is mechanically controlled by a motor-operated cam (42), against which a spring-loaded lever (114) bears which is pivotably carried by the base and is connected to the wheel slide via a bar (122). The lateral pivoting of the wheel slide is electrically controlled independently of the longitudinal adjustment and is effected via a motor-operated nut/screw arrangement (178, 186). <IMAGE>
