Fire guard for open domestic fires - has symmetrical metal screens hinged on vertical supports on both sides of fire

The fire guard has two symmetrical halves (1). Each consists of a frame (3) which holds a wire mesh screen (2). One side of the frame has projecting lugs which slip between matching lugs (6) on a vertical support frame (5) to form hinges (10). The support frame (5) is a wrought iron bar on a pedestal (8). There is one such frame on each side of the fireplace to support each half of the guard. Each half of the guard has a handle (9) by means of which it can be swung on the support. This enables one to open the guard to attend to the fire without touching hot metal.
