<p>A tape measure is fitted with an electric motor for winding in the tape after a measurement. The motor (13) is connected to the drum for the tape through a reduction gearing (12e or alternatively sprocket type drive wheel (8) which may drive the tape directly through perforations in the tape itself. The motor drive facilitates the use of a long and rigid tape of trough-section metal, and th provision of the reduction gear allows the drive to be effected by a relatively small and cheap motor.</p> |
