Two gear wheels mesh with each other within a reservoir of water. Each is driven through half a revolution and is driven by the other for the other half revolution. Each wheel has a peripheral recess (4) connected by a radial bore (3) with a hollow shaft (1). Air enters the recess from a hole open to atmosphere on the shaft and the resulting buoyancy causes a rotation of half a revolution of the wheel. A flexible hose (5) from the recess allows the air to pass out of the water reservoir. A ball valve (7) allows the recess to refill at the top of the wheel.
