<p>The cane is shredded into pieces each of cross-section 10mm2 and exposing 75-80% of open cells. It is then processed in a diffuser having a rotary annular drum with radial compartments. Bagasse discharged from the diffuser is then pre-dried. Before shredded cane is put into the diffuser it is pref. soaked in scalding juice from the diffuser, mixed and washed. After soaking, mixing and washing the cane is pref. drained and pressed to bring its moisture content to about 70% prior to diffusion. Bagasse discharged from the diffuser is pref. subjected to a two-stage pressing operation with intermediate soaking. Press drainings are pref. recycled to the diffuser. After pressing, bagasse with a moisture content of 65-70% is pref. predried in hot air to about 50% moisture content and then burned in a steam raising boiler producing heat for predrying. Vapour from the predrying stage is pref. condensed and condensate returned to the diffuser.</p> |
