Controller for electromagnetic stepped drives esp. for reactors - regulates on=off times and drive currents for optimum operation

The stepped drive controller, e.g. for nuclear reactor protection, comprises a reference input unit with first and second inputs fed from control buses and third and fourth inputs fed from the drive end position transducers. The outputs from the reference unit are connected to a distribution unit. The latters first, third and fifth outputs are connected to drivers. All outputs are taken to storage elements. The outputs of these are also taken to the drivers. The drivers are connected to their respective electromagnets. Sensors monitor the positions of the moving elements associated with clamps used for raising and lowering the feed rod. The outputs of the sensors are fed to the fourth, fifth and sixth inputs of the distribution unit. The system regulates the duration of drive current in the windings of the electromagnets according to the actuation of the electromagnets.
