Peptide cpds. of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I) R1 is lower alkyl, lower aralkyl or aryl; R2-4 are each the side chain of a neutral or acidic amino acid usually found in proteins; R5 is OH or CH3; n is 0,1,2 or 3; the configuration at C(a) and C(b) is L in each case when R2 or R3 is not H and that at C(c) is (R) when R4 is not H. The peptides are effective against e.g. e. coli, Staph. aureus, Serratia marcescens, K. aerogenes, Enterobacter sp., Strep. faecalis, Haemophilus influenzae and Salmonella typhimurium. A specific cpd. is (IR)-1-((N-acetyl-L-alanyl)-amino)ethyl phosphonic acid. |
