Two pressure transducer (1, 2) are pressed against a plate (3) which forms part of a suspension (4). A force input member (5) applies an alternating stress to the two pressure transducers by way of the intervening suspension and plate. The two pressure transducers (1, 2) are prestressed by means of a crossbeam (6) and base plate between which they are clamped by screw bolts (8). As an alternative, to the illustrated arrangement, which shows an input member (5) for compressive forces, the rod may be bolted to the suspension plate to permit input of tensile forces as well. In a further embodiment, the principle is applied to a rotary apparatus to permit the measurement of torsional stress.
