A cylindrical prestressed concrete pressure vessel contains a vault for a gas-cooled, high-temp. reactor with pods in the vessel wall surrounding the vault. Both the reactor core and the vault are elliptical in plan, the pods for the heat exchangers being located in the thick part of the wall, i.e. between the cylindrical outer face and the flatter parts of the ellipse. Pref. the disposition of the pods is in accordance with the equation. a= b+ c + d where a is the larger radius and b the smaller radius of the elliptical vault, c is a pod diameter and d the clear distance between the pod and the vault wall. In this arrangement, pressure vessel can be appreciably reduced.
|
