Large axial flow pump with concrete casing - has spherical joint between cover plate and bearing housing

The pump (8, 9) is mounted vertically within a concrete casing (1) with inlet and discharge bends. The pump is inserted through an opening in the inlet bend which is closed round the shaft (6) by a cover (10). The cover has an outer flange which seats on a steel flange (3) cast in the top of the concreate casing. The cover is made of two section which are bolted together axially parallel to the pump shaft. The edges the sections which form the hole in the cover are concave and rest on a convex section of the bearing housing (5) which supports the shaft. The spherically of this joint makes it possible to compensate for eccentricity of the casing flange (3) produced during the casting process.
