Zinc recovery from dross formed during hot dip galvanising - by feeding the dross up molten bath of zinc

The dross forms on the surface of the Zn bath, and is removed and fed downwards into molten zinc so that Zn is extracted from the dross before the latter floats upwards to the surface of the melt. The pref. equipment consists of a tank holding a bath of molten zinc. In the bath is an inclined tube contg. a driven worm feeder screw below a dross feeder inlet sepd. by a dividing wall from the surface of the bath. The feeder screw drives the dross downwards into the bath. The dross formed during hot dip galvanising contains a large amt. of Zn. The process provides an inexpensive and simple method whereby a galvanising plant can be used to recover Zn from its own dross.
