A dictaphone is fitted with a control module to provide a controlled pause following each word. The main control switch (10) for the dictaphone is conrolled by a flip-flop (22) that is reset by a pulse (20) in response to a selected (18) counter state. A pulse generator (12) responds to a word and a monostable trigger (14) is activated on the trailing edge. The counter is cycled to provide a predetermined pause before the next word occurs. Between the main control switch (10) and the flip-flop (22) is an amplifier (24). The "S" terminal of the flip-flop is used to feed the input to the counter circuit (16).
