<p>In Parent Patent, aq. ClO2 solns. are prepd. by dissolving 7-21 pts. wt. chlorite, 7.5-25-5 pts. wt. hypochlorite and 0.5-1.5 pts. wt. carbonate in 35-105 pts. wt. water, and mixing the aq. soln. obtd. with 7.5-22.5 pts. wt. dil. (in)organic acid, to set up pH 5-10. In this addn. aq. ClO2 solns. are prepd. by (a) adding 35-105 pts. wt. chlorite to 15-45 pts. wt. water; (b) acidifying the aq. sol(. obtd. by slowly adding 3-9 pts. wt. inorganic or organic acid; (c) mixing with 0.5-2.5 pts. wt. water-soluble metal hydroxide to set up pH 5-10 and (d) adding, with const. stirring, 0.5-1.5 pts. wt. carbonate to the aq. alkaline soln.. Process modification allows the prepn. of stable Cl-free ClO2 solns., which can be added safely to drinking-or bath-water. Water smell and taste are not affected and chloramine formation is prevented. The ClO2 soln. is stabilised by carbonate and requires no additional stabilisers, e.g. peroxides.</p> |
