PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element in which an intersubstrate spacing is strictly controllable without impairing the orientability of liquid crystals, impact resistance is excellent and this spacing may be held constant against of an external pressure and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element has a pair of substrates 2, 3 disposed to face each other and the liquid crystals 4 enclosed between both substrates 2 and 3. The two substrates 2, 3 respectively have electrodes 5, 6 for impressing voltages on the liquid crystals 4 and orientation control layers 8, 11 which are disposed to cover these electrodes 5, 6 and control the orientation of the liquid crystals 4. The regions between the adjacent electrodes 5 on the substrate 2 are provided with spacers 9 for adhering both substrates 2, 3 in striped shapes while maintaining the spacing between both substrates 2 and 3 constant. The orientation control layer 8 is arranged after the spacers 9 are formed on the substrate 2. |
