Compositions comprising a 5-R- or 6-R-benzofuran derivative of formula:- <IMAGE> wherein R is C3-C6cycloalkyl, C4-C8 alkyl or alkoxy, optionally substituted phenyl, phenoxy, benzyl or benzoyl, and R<1> is hydroxyl C1-C4 alkoxy, benzyloxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy or cycloalkoxy, or of formula:- <IMAGE> wherein R is as in the former formula and R<1> is as in the former formula or is allylamino, are lipogenesis inhibitors in warm-blooded animals. Compounds of both formulae are claimed, except those in which simultaneously R is 5-phenyl and R<1> is hydroxyl or ethoxy, together with processes for their preparation. |
