摘要 1537281 Seaming DUNLOP Ltd 12 March 1976 [13 March 1975] 10520/75 Addition to 1456855 Heading B5K A composite material, comprising a thermoplastic polyamide component bonded to a vulcanized ethylene/alpha-mono-olefin/cyclic diene terpolymer component without an adhesive interlayer, is made by relatively moving the component surfaces in frictional contact until the polyamide surface melts and then allowing said surface to solidify, the vulcanized rubber surface having previously been subjected to ultraviolet irradiation. The rubber may be an EPDM rubber and the polyamide may be nylon-11. The vulcanized rubber may be treated with a solution or dispersion of a photosensitizer (suitable compounds being listed) and then irradiated at 2000-4000 Angstroms. The components may be contacted for 1-10 sec. under 100-500 kN/m<SP>2</SP> pressure. The movement may be rotary, angular or linear continuous or oscillatory mechanical movement of one or both components, or ultrasonic vibration. If necessary, one or both components may be hardened by freezing in liquid N 2 or dry iceacetone, and heat may be applied. Further components may be present. In examples, a nylon tube is rotated in contact with a moulded rubber slab.
