The device exhibits a heat probe installed in the said zone, a duct (2') containing a fluid, linked to a chamber (3) which is expendable by effect of the expansion of said fluid upon an increase in the temperature of the probe; an electrical contact (4, 5) of which one semicontact (4) is solid with the expandable chamber and the other semicontact (5) is fixed and adjustable, that is to say variably movable towards and away from the first by means of a screw and nut screwed onto the casing; a spring (6) which is calibrated and arranged to be precompressed in the device, which can be replaced by others of differing calibration, being disposed in such a manner as to oppose the expansions of said expandable chamber. This device gives a high sensitivity to variations in temperature. It is intended to be used on board motor cars to prevent fires. <IMAGE>
