The driver's brake valve controlling the pressure in the main air line (13) is designed to maintain the pressure and has a control device (9) which responds only when a pressure drop, which has been caused by an emergency, for example by decoupling of the train or operation of the emergency brake, occurs in the main air line (13). The control device (9) influenced by the pressure differential between the main air line pressure and the control pressure of the driver's brake valve contains a double valve (32, 34; 33, 34), which in normal operation is held in one position by the higher pressure in the main air line (13) and in the event of a sharp pressure drop, such as occurs in an emergency, is switched into a second position, in which the signal device emits an emergency signal, by the higher control pressure in this case prevailing in the control line (4, 7) of the driver's brake valve. <IMAGE>
