1396075 Bowling alleys PATENTVERWERTUNGS - UND FINANZIERUNGSGESELLSCHAFT SERANIA AG 22 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 29745/73 Heading A6D In a bowling pin setting apparatus of the type in which each pin 1 is connected to a rope 2, each rope 2 passes around a pulley 5 and the pulleys 5 are mounted on arms 30 on a common bar 12 each end of which is connected to an endless chain which is driven at. a constant speed, the bar 12 carrying a lever 28 which engages a cam ramp 32 to reduce the speed of descent of the pins just prior to the pins being set on the floor 23. As described each rope 2 passes through a centering device, around a fixed pulley 3, around pulley 5 and the end is secured to a spring loaded drum 6. Each drum 6 is mounted on an arm 9 which can pivot about pin 7 against the resistance of spring 8. Each endless chain 13 passes around two wheels 14, 15 and the chains 13 are driven at a constant speed by motor 17 via belt drive 18 and gearing (not shown). The apparatus operates as follows:-initially the bar 12 is located adjacent the wheels 14 and to reset the pins the motor 17 is started. The bar 12 moves in the direction of arrow E to raise the pins 1 which enter the centering devices 35 as the bar 12 passes the wheels 15. When the pins enter the centering devices 35 the movement of the bar 12 causes the arms 9 to pivot about pins 7 against the pressure of spring 8. The bar 12 then moves in the direction of arrow A to lower the pins. Just before the pins reach the floor 33 a roller 29 on the arm 28 engages a cam ramp 32 which causes the bar 12 to pivot in the direction of arrow C to reduce the speed of descent of the pins to one third of their former speed. After the pins have been set on the floor the arm 28 clears the ramp 32 and when the bar 12 reaches the wheels 14 the motor 17 is stopped. If the ropes become tangled when the pins are being raised the arms 9 pivot about the pins 7 to open a switch to stop the motor 17 and the pins descend under gravity When the ropes become untangled the motor 17 starts again. A second switch in parallel to the first switch is closed when the pins enter the centering devices 35. so that the motor 17 does not stop when the arms 9 pivot as the bar 12 passes wheels 15. |
