Compsn. for keeping cut flowers, or other plant parts, fresh contains at least one carboxyphenyl benzoate deriv. of formula (I) and pref. a diluent. (I) are added to the water in which the flowers are kept. (I) which prevents growth of bacteria and fungi, are effective for a wide range of plant species and cause no alteration to the flowers or leaves. The compsns. have excellent storage stability. A typical compsn. contains, in 1 l water, 15g glucose; 5g sucrose; 50mg borax; 450 mg alum; 250 mg NH4-Al double sulphate; and 25 mg 2-carboxyphenyl 3- N-trifluoromethyl-N-dichlorofluoromethylsulphenyl amino-benzoate. |
