Ships helm angular displacement electrical transmitter - uses permanent magnet and saturated magnetic type detector

The transmitter uses a permanent magnet (7) which is rotated by the shaft (4) whose angular displacement is to be controlled. The magnet produces a magnetic field which influences a fixed detector (8) of the unsaturated magnetic type which is placed opposite the magnet. The magnet detector (8) may be replaced by a Hall effect type magnetic detector. The angular detection transmitter may be used to give indication of the helm angle of a ship. It may also be used for control of the helm angle and supplying the return signal necessary for servo control of the helm.
