The walls of steel vessels for contg. aggressive liqs. are protected by spot welding >=1 layer of metallic fabric to the walls and then impregnating the fabric with a protective coating such as a thermosetting resin, esp. linings covered with several successive coatings of polyester resin reinforced with glass fibres. The metallic fabric can be securely anchored to the vessel walls and the interstices of the fabric provides positive keys for the resin coating, to inhibit interfacial delamination. Opt. finely perforated thin steel sheet may be used instead of metallic fabric. This eliminates need for cleaning or blasting of the vessel wall surfaces.
|
