The pivot fitting for a door or window comprises a frame plate (1) and a door plate (5) united by a ball bearing (4). The door plate (5) has a raised end zone (5A) incorporating a hemi-spherical recess (5B). The frame plate has a longitudinal slot (3) with in a channel (2) of an approximate 'L' shape. The ball (4) is located by the recess (5B) and the slot (3) with the channel (2) locating the raised end zone (5a). The channel (2) guides the end zone (5B) during pivoting with the relative geometry such that the ball (4) moves in the slot (3) along the longitudinal axis of the frame.
