<p>1307467 Producing cellulosic pulp and effluent recovery STERLING DRUG Inc 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 24726/71 Heading D2W Cellulosic pulp is produced from cellulosic raw material by treatment thereof with oxygen in a reactor containing an aqueous buffer pH 7-9 e.g. NaHCO 3 solution, and the effluent therefrom treated with oxygen at a temperature of 200-375‹C which is higher than that in the pulping reactor and at a pressure sufficient to maintain the effluent liquid, so as to oxidize organic material in the effluent to CO 2 and H 2 O and the treated effluent reused for pulping. Oxygen not used in pulping may be cooled, pressurized if necessary and fed to the effluent recovery reactor. Oxygen exiting from the pulping reactor may be used to control the pressure therein. CO 2 exiting from the recovery reactor may be liquefied and gases in general exiting therefrom may be directed to energy recovery systems which generate steam or electric power.</p>
