The telephone number (TA1, TB1) of helpers participating in the emergency phone call system are divided into groups each associated with at least one disabled person. Each disabled persons telephone (TA, TB) has an automatic selector (DA, DB) which when operated transmits an identification signal to a central station where an answering instrument (R) identifies the caller. The helper's telephone numbers are stored (S) in a predetermined sequence. A first detector (D1) selects the appropriate group from the store, and an automatic selector (DC) successively calls the helpers in the selected group. A second detector (D2) ends the operation of the selector (DC) when an answering signal has been received from one of the called helpers.
