The propulsion system comprises a mass (4) rotating on a shaft (1) and compressed air nozzle (5) to shift the centre of gravity of that mass laterally from the shaft axis to a fixed stationary point at a distance from that axis thus creating a lateral force on the shaft bearings (2, 3) in the opposite direction. The system may be angularly adjustable about an axis at an angle to the shaft axis, or about two axes at an angle relative to one another. The mass may consist of a number of flexible vanes (4) capable of being deflected by air jet nozzle (5) in a direction (A) parallel to the shaft axis.
