The apparatus for hanging up and taking down curtains from curtain rails which have a U-shaped track groove includes an auxiliary rail which guides the support elements (1) of the curtains. The upper slide member (2) of these support elements (1) consists of a single laterally projecting hook member so that each support element only slides on half the inner track face of the curtain rail (8) in which the auxiliary rail can be anchored. The auxiliary rail has a head section with a guide for the support elements. This guide protrudes laterally at the point of entry and then runs upwards so that the support elements can be brought from a substantially vertical position into an inclined position in which the laterally projecting hook (2) can be inserted through the longitudinal slot of the curtain rail (8).
