Diurethanes of formula (I) are novel cpds. (where R is lower alkyl (pref. methyl or ethyl) and X/Y=F/F, F/Cl or Cl/F). (I) are herbicides which have good selectivity and may be used alone or in combination with other herbicides to control weeds in crops such as soya, peanuts, sugar beet, species of vegetable and rice. Numerous field tests are described.
