Spinneret includes an extrusion head including at least two cylindrical bores having a dia. of least 30 mm and lying parallel with the lower face of the extrusion head. Each bore connects with a recess in the lower face of the extrusion head and has located in it a pre-stressed metallic plate having extrusion apertures so that melt supplied via e.g. a feed dust to the bore is extruded through apertures to form a filament. The thickness of the metallic plate is at least 0.5 mm. The extrusion head is compact. The metallic plate can be rapidly changed to allow changes in dia. of extrusion apertures or to replace a plate having blocked apertures.
