1536814 Cutting tools KENNAMETAL Inc 28 April 1977 [14 May 1976] 17699/77 Heading B3B A grooving or parting-off tool comprises a support frame 16 from which extends a relatively thin planar blade 18 to which is attached a seating 28 and a cutting insert 26. The blade 18 has a substantial height dimension in comparison with its width, and the insert 26 is fixed to the blade adjacent the centre of its height and on its free edge. The blade 18 is slotted to receive a plate 30 which carries the seating 28 and insert 26. The blade 18 is supported laterally against buckling by a bolted-on block 22. The frame 16 has an adaptor 12 by which the tool is mounted in a machine tool, and a carrying handle 14. The tool may be mounted upside-down (Fig. 4, not shown) so that swarf may fall out of the groove being cut by gravity. The insert 26 is circular and can be held in the seating 28 by, e.g. brazing or wedging. |
