PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the coating film defect of a drum by stopping the bottom end face of the immersed drum in a coating liquid for a prescribed time, then gradually pulling up the drum, thereby eliminating the local stagnation of the drum and the coating liquid and preventing coating unevenness stripe in a method for coating the drum with the coating liquid by immersing the drum into the coating liquid. SOLUTION: The prescribed coating liquid 2 is housed in a coating vessel 1 and the drum 3 with its aperture faced downward is immersed into the coating liquid 2. The overflowing coating liquid 2 is discharged from a receiving section 5, is filtered in a filtration vessel and is cyclically supplied to the bottom end of the coating vessel 1. At this time, the drum 3 is stopped for the specified time in the lowered state. The coating liquid 2, which is prevented of flow by the drum 3 and in which the stagnation is locally generated, restores straightened flow and ascends as the straightened flow without the stagnation any more. Next, the drum 3 is pulled up along an axial direction from the coating vessel 1 so as not to disturb the regulated flow of the coating liquid 2. As a result, a coating film may be formed on the outside surface without the creation of the coating unevenness.
