<p>Bromine is prepd. in a cont. process by providing a reaction-distilln. tower having an upper reaction zone and a lower distilln. zone, the zones being septd. by a Br collection zone having an outlet. An aq. soln. of bromide or HBr is fed to the top of the tower, Cl2 is fed to the top of the tower and steam fed to the bottom. Br vapour formed in the upper reaction zone and Br vapour distilled in the distilln. zone are collected in the collection zone. Method is more steam efficient and does not involve any Br discharge from the bottom of the tower. Recovery rate is about 97%.</p> |
