NUCLEAR REACTOR THREE JAW CLOSURE

A three draw closure consisting of a hollow cylindrical body portion having a smooth outer surface and a slotted inner surface. All of the components of the three draw closure are distributed concentrically around the central axis of the body portion. Centrally disposed in the body portion is a funnel shaped safety latch disposed so that the smaller or spout portion of the funnel faces outwardly from the body portion and the larger portion of the funnel faces the interior of the body. When in the safety position, the lip portion of the funnel falls and becomes trapped by a shoulder which has been formed on the inner surface of the body. The safety latch is retained on the outer end of a sleeve. The sleeve may be advanced axially into the body when the safety latch has been centralized since the diameter of the safety latch is less than the internal diameter of the body beyond the shoulder. The actuating mechanism for the jaw is fastened to the opposite and inner end of the sleeve. The actuating mechanism consists of a pawl adapted to be rotated by axial movement of the sleeve about a pivot point to cause the jaw to be retracted into the body. The three jaws extend through the body to the opposite wall of the body and receives support at two points providing a longer guided portion and improved support therefore.
