<p>A stunning tongs for stunning animals prior to slaughter comprising a frame having a handle portion and a pair of stunning arms mounted thereon to permit relative movement between the arms, stunning electrode heads on the arms, a prime mover operable to effect rapid relative movement between the arms to impart a stunning blow on opposite sides of the animal's head, and an electronic stunning circuit operable in timed relation to the prime mover to pass an impulse of predetermined waveform, frequency and voltage/current for a predetermined time period between the electrode heads through the animal's head coterminous with the stunning blow. A manually actuable control switch is provided to supply actuating energy from an energy source simultanously to the prime mover and to the stunning circuit.</p> |
