PROCESS FOR PRODUCING A CHITOSAN FIBER AND A CHEMICALLY TRANSFORMED CHITOSAN FIBER

PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing a chitosan fiber and a chemically transformed chitosan fiber which has excellent mechanical property and high purity, and is useful for medical part because the fiber becomes biolysis in organism. CONSTITUTION: The chitosan fiber is obtained by a process containing the steps of: dissolving chitosan in acetic acid solution to produce viscous solution; diluting with methanol or acetic acid; spinning in a coagulating bath containing alkali aqueous solution; drawing the produced fiber with 1.2-1.4times; cutting in proper length; and then air-blast drying to make the chitosan fiber such as fibrous type or cotton. The produced chitosan fiber is treated with monoaldehyde to make a N-alkylidene or N-arylidene chitosan fiber. The alkali aqueous solution contains sodium hydroxide.
