<p>Apparatus for protecting the ends of drilling pipes partic. for oil drills. The threaded ends of the pipes are mechanically protected by metallic sleeves screwed onto them. The apparatus is designed to fit over the pipe-sleeve assembly to provide protection against corrosion due to seepage into the tip by sea water and other corrosive agents. The apparatus is composed of two parts firstly, a tip-made in one piece which covers and hermetically seals the open end of the sleeve and, secondly a collar threaded onto the pipe which fits into the first part and surrounds the pipe at the level of the end of the sleeve opposite to its open end. The apparatus is simple and economical and ensures that the pipe-sleeve assembly is protected from environmental attack.</p> |
