Centring device for welding cylinder casings - which controls the position of the welding gun relative to the joint

A centring device is provided for use in the longitudinal welding of gas cylinder casings by means of a welding gun movable along the longitudinal edges forming the joint in the casing. The device comprises a constant positioning assembly co-operating on one side with fixed abutments integral with the welding machine to enable the axis of the joint and the weld to be located in the same vertical plane. On the other side the assembly co-operates with control fingers which control the axial position of the gun relative to the vertical plane. The assembly activates the welding machine control system. The device functions automatically and enables casings to be welded consistently in an identical manner. Accurate centering is always achieved non-manually so that the weld rod is always positioned accurately in the joint.
